ReplyDeleteI think alot of went down at Burton over the past few years etc, decisions made, etc, were all for the most part out of Jakes hands. Now that the top management is gone and Jake is in the drivers seat for now, he is trying to turn the tide in a more positive direction, and this letter is just part of that. Jake cares about snowboarding more then you know, and after all the bullshit, haters, rumors, industry smack, Burton does a shit ton for the sport and that is a good thing. You can find Jake in the winter hiking up spruce peak before the lifts open ( that is right, hiking and not riding the lift) earning some turns just about on a daily basis, this guy is a true snowboarder. Props.

ReplyDeleteignorance is no excuse. Jake is and was the owner. He knew all about going direct. He cares about going snowboarding heli style. This is in response to the industry hurting his pocketbook, not him having some big generous heart to hi retailers. It is obvious if anyone, has been paying attention. WHile I also like some of these moves, I think burton has to much power and way to much market share. I think union is going to take some of that.

I lied. The have owned a Burton. It was a Backhill. I rode it one run and went back to skiing till I could get a Sims FE. And yes, I owned a couple sets of 5 hole Burton bindings. That's it. I can honestly say I have never paid a penny for a Burton product.
See, back in "the day" you're talking about, if you skated, you rode Sims. You probably didn't get that memo, or were still playing with GI Joes. If you lived out west, you would have known Burton was for dudes that liked to race each other and bash gates. Oakley blades were never cool either, fyi.
