Wake up yesterday morning in Stratton to 16" of new. Kinda laugh cause I've never ridden pow in the East coast and envisioned the flatness that was to happen. Roll over to the demo tent and grab a new
164 Charlie Slasher and get on a chair as the gondy was shut down to to low winds. Yes...low winds. Roll over to Sun Bowl, as that was the only direction to go and end up on a 6 pack chair. Two dudes are spraying this and that to each other in a very east coast like way and while barely listening, I hear the words "Mallon." I perk up and go "Mike Mallon?" Dude looks over at me and says "yea bud, that's me." Mike was an ole Steamboat Winter Sports Club coach from way back when and now runs the
Stratton Mountain School. You know the school that's churned out Danny Davis, Louie Vito and countless other X-Gaymes shreds. Anyway it's been at least 13 or 14 years since we shredded and that day he and his bro "Sully" (go figure, a Irish guy in the East) take my buddy
Spike and I around to all their secret spots the whole morning totally killing my west coast pow snobbyness. For the year 2010, Stratton is on record as hands down the best pow day of the season. Thanks Sully and Mallon. Ya fuckers.
come to northern VT sometime, I bet I could open your eyes a bit further and surprise you.
