That’s why it’s called a budget cut

So it’s May, finally the end of one of the worlds worst snow seasons EVER. Japan snow wise, sucked a fat dick. Europe had a fist shoved up its ass. North America….well besides the Pacific Northwest, BC, Alberta and Coloradickal killing it, the winter was a bullshit. The East Coast got snow starting in April. How’s that help selling snowboard product? California basically put snow product on the shelves in September and sent it back to manufacturers in January. Not that rad and this is sure to create some shucking and jiving in the snowboard industry. Peeps are trying to move to greener pastures by doing the job shuffle and company’s trying to stay in business buy merging, acquiring, buying and selling. It’s going to get ugly out there. If you think things are consolidated now, wait a year. How many companies can be controlled by the big 3 (Quik, K2 and Burton), as they have like 20 something brands between the 3 of em? It’s gonna be even sadder to see what pro shred isn’t riding BRAND X snowboard, goggle, binding, boot or clothing anymore because they got cut. Not to mention the stores folding, not paying, or going bankrupt. A rough cut these days in the snow biz. It better snow a ton next year or Pat O'Toole won't be able to claim lay backs like this bad boy.

  1. Utah's worst winter in memory. Snow total this year a measly 367 inches. First time since I moved to Utah in the winter of 96-97 that we did not reach 500 inches. Thats saying something! Still more than Colorado's average of 250-350 inches.

My friends in the industry are claiming tons of surplus merchandise that they have to sell along with the new shit for next year. The market is going to be flooded since winter never took off here in Utah or Cali. My friends in Tahoe have called me in tears this season. I guess Truckee looked like October all year.

If you got any surplus COAL hats, I'll buy em, I love them hats, thats what I wear.

Speaking of Cali....and Truckee, the facts?

    Lowest snowpack since 1988.

One and only one typical Tahoe storm the end of February...the rest of the time we got dicked.

And Mother Nature didn't even have the courtesy to give us a reacharound....

  3. I got that one and only storm in Feb. It was freaking crazy. Sunny blue bird, a couple feet of fresh. I flew into Reno and it took me almost 5 hours to drive to Truckee. Morning, like chair 20 on that day and it was soooooo on.
The Northwest on the other hand had an all time year. This was my favorite year here in the 10 I've lived here. In 99 or something it was a bigger snow year but it seemed real consistant and powdery up till the end of Jan here.
But fuck, it's not about powder these days, more like house projects and keeping that grass cut.

But at least I finally got a place in SLC, my dream for years and years. I must be getting old.

the more you ride a bike the better chance you will have of getting more snow right? That is what I am practicing. I heard gas is 8 cents a gallon in Saudi Arabia. It is $3.90 in sunny Vail. Stupid stuff

  7. got damn it. all i am doing now is mowing the lawn and home shit. sucks. this winter was scary. in typical fashion, the whole world finally released that global warming is real. so now it's "cool" to be aware of climate change. i still don't see many changes here. my co-workers still throw out all their paper and diet coke bottles. my neighbors still drive their suburbans. i almost got run over picking up all the cigarette butts in the front line from litterbugs.

i guess the only one to profit from this crappy winter is nutSAC.

  9. apparently you dont need snow to snowboard anyways. kids just hike the same damn rail over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...... at least johan showed us first hand that there is snow up north for those of us who do like to shred.

  10. They call that "training" dude. My boy T-Bone once said, "hey YO, you know how I train for snowboarding? I go snowboarding."
